Buffodine salmonid egg disinfection
Buffodine is a complex iodine-based disinfectant for fish farming and here specifically for the disinfection of eye-spotted eggs and freshly striped, uncured salmonid eggs.
Buffodine is the result of intensive research for the rapidly growing aquaculture industry and has been specifically developed so that the pH value in the use solution is
neutral and that disinfection takes place without harming the fish eggs.
Buffodine is an iodine-based product that has a strong inactivating effect on IPN, EGTVED viruses and also against other fish viroses and fish pathogenic bacteria.
The colour of the Buffodine solution indicates the germicidal effect.
An amber-coloured solution is disinfectant while a light yellow or colourless disinfectant solution has little effect and must be replaced with a new solution.
Disinfection Process:
The prepared disinfectant solution should be used all at once. Even the already diluted solution is extremely toxic for the fish.
All the solutions and the water produced when rinsing the disinfected eggs should be disposed of and not enter the fish farm or receiving water cycle.
Use on eyed salmonid eggs:
Mix a solution of 100 ml Buffodine to 10 lt water. Place the eyed fish eggs in this solution for 10 minutes.
After treatment, the eyed salmonid eggs must be washed thoroughly 4 to 5 times with fresh water and then placed in the brooders.
Use on freshly striped salmonid eggs:
Dissolve 90 g of table salt in 10 lt of water and add 100 ml of Buffodine to this salt solution and mix thoroughly.
Wash the milk (sperm) from the fertilised salmonid eggs with a salt solution (90 g to 10 lt water) until they are pure.
Dip the cleaned eggs into the prepared buffodine solution (90 g table salt, 100 ml buffodine). Leave on for 10 minutes.
After the treatment described above, the salmonid eggs must be washed thoroughly 4 to 5 times with a salt solution (90 g table salt to 10 lt water).
Then place the eggs in the incubators where they are rinsed with fresh water.
